Matthew 26:19-21 King James Version (KJV)
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
Matthew 26:19-21 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover. 20 When evening came, He was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 While they were eating, He said, “I assure you: One of you will betray Me.”

19 They would have had the Passover meal even if Jesus was not with them because it was what they did but because they were His servants they listened to Him on how to prepare it, they did not decide to things their own way to make the preparations but they listened to the Master, we are to listen to the Master with the planning and well as after. They also did not take time to question Him whether or not they would have the Passover meal because they knew it was right, when something is in God’s word we don’t need to waste time by questioning it.
20 So while others were most likely there with them the scriptures points to the twelve because they are the focus of what is happening.
21 You can imagine what the disciples were thinking when Jesus said this, they were thinking who it was perhaps some were thinking that this could not be. Truth is Jesus may have been betrayed by a friend but He went to the cross because of our sin.
