Matthew 26:51-54 King James Version (KJV)
51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Matthew 26:51-54 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
51 At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his ear.
52 Then Jesus told him, “Put your sword back in its place because all who take up a sword will perish by a sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels?54 How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”

51 We see in other gospels that this was Peter doing this. We often times act in the flesh during times we don’t have understanding.
52 He is referring to an actual sword here but there is also reference to scripture those who accept scripture but reject Jesus are judged by the same scripture they accept. Jesus would act in peace during this entire time but His disciples were going crazy.
53 Jesus still had power but was completely submissive to God’s will, we are to live according to His will sometimes we have power to do different but we are to follow him which means at times we don’t do what we can but let His will always happen.
54 This was to fulfill scripture this was what all scripture was pointing to.
