1 Chronicles 21:24-25 King James Version (KJV)
24 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
25 So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
1 Chronicles 21:24-25 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
24 King David answered Ornan, “No, I insist on paying the full price, for I will not take for the LORD what belongs to you or offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
25 So David gave Ornan 15 pounds of gold for the plot.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
24 David was not going to be given something that he was giving to the Lord to give to the Lord means it comes at a cost to us, if it is paid by someone else then it is not a sacrifice to us, praise God Jesus paid our price. Even serving God has a cost we have to die to self because He died for us.
25 The price was the full price its worth was paid and given to God.
