1 Chronicles 21:26-27 King James Version (KJV)
26 And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
27 And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
1 Chronicles 21:26-27 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
26 He built an altar to the LORD there and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the LORD, and He answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the LORD spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
26 David set up a place to worship God unlike Saul David most likely had a priest with him doing things as the law commanded. So fire struck the altar showing that God accepted his offering and repentance. When we are wrong we need to seek God’s grace mercy and forgiveness.
27 So the angel destroying was now no longer has going to attack, a sword symbolized war and it was put away.
