1 Chronicles 22:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
22 Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
2 And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.
3 And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;
4 Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.

David’s Preparations for the Temple
2 So David gave orders to gather the foreigners that were in the land of Israel, and he appointed stonecutters to cut finished stones for building God’s house. 3 David supplied a great deal of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, together with an immeasurable quantity of bronze,4 and innumerable cedar logs because the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought a large quantity of cedar logs to David.

1 David wanted to build the Lord’s temple because of the Lord’s mercy. David was not doing this to bring glory to David but so that he could honor God.
2 David started planning right away. This would be a permanent building God’s house would soon no longer be a tent.
3-4 David got everything that would be needed David wanted this to built now. God often wants us to plan because He has everything planned for us.
