Matthew 27:38-40 King James Version (KJV)
38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Matthew 27:38-40 Expanded Bible (EXB)
38 Two •robbers [rebels; revolutionaries; C the term “robber” was used by the Romans of insurrectionists] were crucified beside Jesus, one on the right and the other on the left [Is. 53:12]. 39 People walked by and •insulted [defamed; slandered; C the same Greek word used to “blaspheme”] Jesus and shook their heads [C a gesture of derision; Ps. 22:7], 40 saying, “You said you could destroy the Temple and build it again in three days. So save yourself! Come down from that cross if you are really the Son of God!”

38 He got the same punishment as these thieves, they deserved death just as we do but He alone didn’t deserve death but took it so we may live,
39 They hated Him this was why they wanted Him on the cross but He wanted there because He is love.
40 They mocked His teaching, they didn’t understand He was in the process of tearing down the temple so that He could raise it back up but they mocked exactly what He was doing.
