1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

1 This is the gospel of Jesus who is God and the Son of God. The good news is who Jesus is and what Jesus did and how it effects us.
2 Jesus is talking about thru the entire bible. The prophets pointed to the Lord. This massager was John the Baptist who used by the Spirit to prepare the people for the coming of Jesus.
John was the voice and people listened to John, this could have been because the people were simply seeking in their time of bondage to Rome, trying to find hope. Our hope needs to go no further then Jesus.
