2 Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
3 Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

1 So these men served for a month leading the king’s army, this may be with the exception of periods of war and at that time im sure all were brought in so they could have the every man they could in their army to avoid lose. Not each group was the same size this would be for tactical reasons because smaller groups while less might could move undetected easier.
2 This wouldn’t be January but the first month of the Jewish calendar. This was a very large group but this would be during the start of war season so big number was needed and they could bring in more if needed.
3 So he lead during the first month which may have been the fiercest due to it being the start of war season and this may mean he had the most experience in war and would be likely to find himself in war.
