1 Chronicles 18:1-2 King James Version (KJV) 18 Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. 2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.

18 Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from Philistine control. 2 He also defeated Moab, enslaving them and requiring payment.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
1 David did this because it was the Lord’s will for them to take possession of their land and the Philistines stood in the way of this happening. David had won many battles before against the Philistines, this time he takes one of their biggest cites and those that surrounded it, David did this because he followed God.
2 David may have allowed the Moabites to become servants after taking their land because he was a descendent of Moab thru Ruth. David did not allow the Philistines the chance to become his servants. David remembered where Ruth came from and showed pity but he also knew who his Lord was and what He wanted.
