1 Chronicles 18:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.
5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
1 Chronicles 18:3-5 Common English Bible (CEB)
3 David defeated Zobah’s King Hadadezer at Hamath, as he continued to establish his control along the Euphrates River. 4 David captured one thousand chariots from him, seven thousand cavalry, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Then David cut the hamstrings of all but one hundred of the chariot horses. 5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Zobah’s King Hadadezer, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Arameans.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
3 David killed some men, to take the kingdom the Lord had for him, the would be the largest the kingdom would ever be and after Solomon’s death it would soon never be that large again. Most times the Lord will lead us to places that we never thought we could go.
4 This shows a strong military might and was this way because the Lord was with David because David’s heart was for the Lord. A strong military meant power, land meant wealth, depending on the land, the Euphrates was very good land to gain, the desert would not be.
5 Sometimes the world will gain up on us trying to defeat us together; we should keep going as the Lord leads us. The Lord often times will be divided but there is not to be division within the church because God is not divided. One day the Lord will return a struck down all evil.
