Nehemiah 1:4-7 King James Version (KJV)
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
Nehemiah 1:4-7
KJ2000 4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven, 5 And said, I beseech you, O LORD God of heaven, the great and awesome God, that keeps covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: 6 Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may hear the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you now, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you: both I and my father’s house have sinned. 7 We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
4 Fasting and pray goes together is shows God that we have it deeply on our hearts. Often we pray for things and expect God to take care of them but we never really pray like this.
5 He knows exactly who the Lord is does not whine to the Lord about his problem but goes to the Lord as his Lord. He knew that the Lord would listen to him but that the Lord did not have to listen to Him.
6-7 He knew that God would hear his prayer and that God was the only One who could change the hearts of the people. We should go to God realizing we are sinners, we have found thru Him grace that came from Christ dying on a cross for us.
