1 Chronicles 18:9-11 King James Version (KJV)
9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
1 Chronicles 18:9-11 Common English Bible (CEB)
9 When Hamath’s King Tou heard that David had defeated the entire army of Zobah’s King Hadadezer, 10 he sent his son Hadoram to King David to wish him well and to congratulate him over his battle and defeat of Hadadezer, because Tou was an enemy of Hadadezer. Hadoram brought with him all kinds of gold, silver, and bronze objects. 11 King David dedicated these to the LORD along with the silver and the gold he had taken from all these nations: Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.

9 David was able to have the victory because he followed the Lord. When we follow the Lord even when we see defeat, He will be leading us to victory.
10 We as Christians should be happy with others win. They saw David as an ally so the shared his joy. The world may also react this way against us though, they may be happy when they see that cause us to be defeated. We are to allow Jesus to give us victory; our first victory comes thru Him.
11 David was given things and he gave them back to the Lord because he knew it was only by the Lord that he could have the victory so he presented what he was given because of it back to the Lord.
