1 Chronicles 18:12-13 King James Version (KJV)
12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand. 13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.
1 Chronicles 18:12-13 Common English Bible (CEB)
12 Abishai, Zeruiah’s son, struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley. 13 He stationed soldiers in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s slaves. The LORD gave David victory wherever he went.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
12 This was someone that served under king David. The Edomites were the descendents of Esau so they were children of Abraham but not the children of Israel, they may have been under Abraham’s blessing but the blessing God gave to Israel was stood before that and was carried to Israel. This is the area around the Dead Sea.
13 They became David’s servants this most likely would have been done to show them mercy and allow them to live because they were children of Abraham. The Lord is the one that gave this victory; thru Him we find our victory over our sins. The Lord was with David but David followed the Lord.
