Matthew 26:6-9 King James Version (KJV)
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

The Anointing at Bethany
6 While Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon, a man who had a serious skin disease, 7 a woman approached Him with an alabaster jar of very expensive fragrant oil. She poured it on His head as He was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
6 Simon the leper, this was a man known for being a leper even though Jesus had healed him he still was known as the leper, when we are healed for our sins, we may still be known by the world for who we were and we are not to allow that to burden us to where we can not become He wants us to be.
7 So He was eating and put perfume on him, this was not something commonly for anyone who was not royalty, washing feet before eating was common just as wash up today.
8 The perfume would have cost a lot of money and they are seeing this as wasteful, not saying that the Lord did deserve the cost because they had left their lives for Him, but thinking that it could better used, we also see in another gospel how Judas dislikes this because of greed.
9 This was true and a good point some of them may truly wonder why this was not being done so that they could help more people. Today the way some churches spends their money makes you question just as this did them.
